He is an expert in zoology and marine hydrobiology. He is an author of 245 scientific publications in these directions: articles, theses and conference proceedings. Among them 56 are in the journals indexed by Scopus, 43 articles are in the journals indexed by Web of Science. 2 Ph.D. theses were successfully defended under his leading. At present he guides research study of post-graduates. He is a member of the Dissertation Council in “Ecology”. He is the research supervisor of international grants, grants of WWF, Russian Geographical Society (RGS). He was the head of numerous expeditions researching cetaceans in North Pacific region. He is a participant and a member of organizing committees of many international conferences. He has close cooperation and regular meetings with foreign colleagues.
